Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce (or soy sauce for a vegetarian option)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For Serving

  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Sliced red onion
  • Extra sweet chili sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, sweet chili sauce, minced garlic, chopped shallot, fish sauce (or soy sauce), lime juice, cilantro, grated ginger, black pepper, and salt. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick. Make a slight depression in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or the skillet using non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  4. Cook the Patties: Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the patties are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: Lightly toast the whole wheat buns on the grill or in the skillet. On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, then add the cooked turkey patty. Top with sliced cucumber and red onion for crunch and freshness.
  6. Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle additional sweet chili sauce over the turkey patties, cap with the top bun, and serve immediately with your preferred side dishes.

Notes

  • To keep the burgers juicy, avoid over-mixing the turkey mixture.
  • If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute ground turkey with a firm plant-based mince and fish sauce with soy sauce.
  • You can adjust the amount of sweet chili sauce to make the burgers more or less spicy according to your preference.
  • Ensure the internal temperature of the patties reaches 165°F (74°C) to safely consume ground turkey.
  • Serve with a side salad or baked sweet potato fries for a balanced meal.
