Beef
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
Sauce & Seasoning
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Vegetables
- 1 cup bell peppers, sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup sliced carrots
- 1/2 cup snap peas or snow peas
- Prepare the Beef: Thinly slice the beef across the grain to ensure tenderness. Marinate with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch for about 10 minutes if you wish to add extra juiciness and a slight thickening effect to the sauce.
- Heat the Pan and Cook Beef: Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat and add 1 tablespoon oil. Once hot, add the beef slices in a single layer and stir-fry rapidly for 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove beef and set aside.
- Cook the Vegetables: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, then add garlic and stir briefly until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Add the prepared vegetables and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.
- Combine and Add Sauce: Return the beef to the pan with the vegetables. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and continue stir-frying for another 1-2 minutes until the beef is cooked through and the sauce has evenly coated the ingredients.
- Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- For the best texture, slice the beef thinly and against the grain.
- Use fresh garlic for the most robust flavor.
- You can substitute or add other vegetables such as mushrooms, onions, or baby corn.
- Adjust soy sauce quantity based on your salt preference.
- Serve with jasmine rice or egg noodles for an authentic pairing.
