Ingredients

Scale

For the Brussels Sprouts:

  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed & halved
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the Glaze:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

For Topping:

  • 4 slices bacon, cooked & crumbled (optional)
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for roasting the Brussels sprouts.
  2. Prepare the Brussels sprouts: Place the trimmed and halved Brussels sprouts on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Toss thoroughly to coat each piece evenly with oil and seasoning.
  3. Roast the Brussels sprouts: Roast in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, tossing halfway through to ensure they brown evenly and become crispy on the edges.
  4. Make the glaze: While the Brussels sprouts roast, melt butter over medium heat in a small saucepan. Add brown sugar, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly.
  5. Toss the Brussels sprouts with glaze: Remove the roasted Brussels sprouts from the oven and transfer them to a bowl. Pour the warm glaze over and toss gently but thoroughly to coat every piece.
  6. Top and serve: Move the glazed Brussels sprouts onto a serving dish. If desired, sprinkle with crumbled bacon and grated Parmesan cheese for added flavor and texture. Serve immediately for best taste and crispness.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, omit the bacon and Parmesan cheese.
  • You can add a touch more balsamic vinegar or soy sauce for extra flavor if desired.
  • If you prefer a sweeter glaze, increase the brown sugar or substitute honey to taste.
  • To achieve extra crispiness, broil the Brussels sprouts for 1-2 minutes at the end of roasting, watching carefully to prevent burning.
