This easy no-bake bark features a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and tart flavors, making it a fantastic dessert or snack, especially during fall and holiday seasons.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Base

  • 12 oz milk or dark chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Caramel

  • 1 cup soft baking caramels, melted

Toppings

  • 1 medium green apple, chopped or thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chopped gluten-free pretzels or nuts (pecans, walnuts, or almonds)
  • 1/4 cup melted chocolate for drizzle

Instructions

  1. Soak The Apple Pieces: Place the chopped or sliced apple pieces in 1 cup of water mixed with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and let them soak for 5-10 minutes to prevent browning and maintain freshness.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, melt the 12 oz chocolate with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil until smooth and creamy, stirring well after each interval to avoid burning.
  3. Spread the Chocolate: Line a 9×13 inch sheet pan with parchment paper. Pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment and use a spatula to spread it evenly to approximately 1/4 inch thickness.
  4. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the chopped gluten-free pretzels or nuts evenly over the melted chocolate, then arrange the soaked apple pieces on top. Drizzle the 1 cup melted caramel and additional 1/4 cup melted chocolate over the apples and pretzels for extra flavor and decoration.
  5. Allow to Set: Refrigerate the baking sheet for 1-2 hours or until the chocolate is firm. For faster setting, place in the freezer for the last 20 minutes to ensure the bark is easy to break.
  6. Break or Cut the Bark: Once fully set, break the bark into rustic, bite-sized pieces by hand or cut into squares with a knife for more uniform pieces.
  7. Serve and Store: Serve immediately or store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. For best taste and texture, consume within 24 hours.

Notes

  • Use lemon juice soak to prevent apple pieces from browning.
  • For thinner caramel drizzle, add a splash of milk to melted caramel.
  • The recipe can be customized by swapping pretzels for any favorite nuts.
  • Store bark in the refrigerator to prevent melting, especially in warm climates.
  • This bark pairs well with hot cider or coffee for a cozy fall treat.
